Light
Emitting Diode (LED):
The Science of Anti-Aging and Light
Spectrum Control
The Light Emitting Diode,
or “LED,” is a device which emits a highly pure,
single color (wavelength) of very gentle light
– less energy than a 25 watt light bulb. Remarkably,
many cells in our body, not just in the eye, can sense light.
NASA research has shown certain wavelengths of pure LED
light actually can stimulate wound healing and tissue growth
by directly giving instructions to the cells’ DNA.
In particular, a specific type of amber LED light can give
direct instructions to skin cell DNA to promote rejuvenative,
youthful effects. The pulsed glow of this unique
amber LED light causes the cellular
DNA to make the skin cells literally “anti-age:”
the skin cells are actually instructed to produce new collagen
and to inhibit production of collagenase (the enzyme that
breaks down collagen) – a directly opposite process
of normal aging. In this way, LED therapy painlessly can
stimulate your own skin cells to produce the biological
components of more youthful, healthy skin! Interestingly,
the anti-aging effects of LED therapy can continue for months
after treatments are stopped, with on-going youthful stimulation
of collagen and inhibition of collagenase.
This ability to modulate cellular behavior through LED light
– called photomodulation – is a radical
new breakthrough in medicine and it is hoped
that someday other forms of LED light therapy will be used
to treat other age-related conditions such as arthritis
and even cancer.
Because LED anti-aging treatments
are non-invasive and of very low energy,
they are completely painless
and do not produce a “red-face,”
allowing clients to go back to their daily routine immediately.
